As professional wedding planners, it’s safe to say we’ve seen our fair share of unusual and unexpected events crop up when it comes to weddings! We always tell our wedding planning clients that as your wedding planner, we’ll always have a plan b (and usually a plan c and d as well), but sometimes, no matter how stringent your wedding plans are, you cannot plan for every single eventuality.
Now, I appreciate that these words might strike fear into the heart of couples planning their wedding, but sometimes, a change of plan can be a blessing in disguise!
In a new Weddings by One Curious Dream mini-series, we’re going to be delving into some of our real-life weddings and finding out how our wedding planning couples navigated the unexpected challenges that arose! First, we’re looking at the gorgeous wedding of London-based couple, Karen and Michael who chose the incredible Fawley Hill near Henley on Thames to host their wedding.
Working with us under our full-service wedding planning option, Karen and Michael had the most incredible vision for a fun-filled tipi wedding. Having sourced this incredible wedding venue for them, we were so excited to find a space that ticked every single box!
From an outdoor woodland area to host their wedding ceremony, a vintage railway museum to host their reception drinks and the most beautiful outdoor space for the tipi’s to be set up this wedding venue was just perfect!
Karen and Michael’s wedding plans were a dream to pull together and working alongside an incredible team of wedding suppliers, we had the most incredible day shaping up! However, just 72 hours before their wedding day, England received warning that torrential storms were due at the weekend.
As the weather was already on very shaky ground, the tipi company (the fantastic Magical Events) felt that it might just be too risky to proceed with installing the tipis.
With this in mind, our wedding planners took swift action to relocate the wedding to an empty building located in the grounds of Fawley Hill, re-planning the entire wedding day from scratch! As the decor scheme for the tipis would no longer work in the new space, we re-designed their decor scheme entirely to offer a quirky vintage feel, perfect for an area that was screaming out to host a vintage wedding!
Whilst Karen and Michael didn’t have the tipi wedding that they had so wanted, they both felt that the amazing wedding they had far exceeded their initial expectations! They loved every single moment of their wedding day and truly felt that their wedding was utterly perfect! Whilst we predominantly work with couples hoping to get married across London, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge and Essex, we do travel from time to time, so if you are getting married further afield, don’t hesitate to reach out!
