Look, we get it! You’ve spent months, perhaps even years planning your wedding and then something like COVID-19 strikes and all bets are off. It’s a heartbreaking time where couples are having to make some tough decisions about their wedding and it isn’t a fun time for anybody including wedding venues, wedding suppliers and wedding planners.
As expert wedding planners, our team have spent the last few weeks helping our wedding planning couples implement contingency plans for their wedding to get them postponed to either 2020 or 2021, so we truly understand the impact of what happens when things don’t run to plan with your wedding.
Today, I’d like to share a brief story of an unprecedented event that flipped one of our summer weddings on its head and more importantly, tell you why this didn’t matter a bit!
Take a look at the beautiful real wedding gallery of Karen and Michael – looks fun, right? Karen and Michael are the most wonderful London-based couple who we worked with to plan and design the most incredible tipi wedding in August 2019. Most of us remember the weather last year as being very hot and almost tropical feeling, but for their wedding weekend, the great British weather had other ideas!
With just 72 hours before their wedding day, weather reports started to show that the UK would be hit by gale-force winds and torrential storms across their wedding weekend. Let me just remind you, this isn’t a winter wedding, their big day was set for August so whilst we can always prepare for a little rain (read about how you can weather-proof your wedding here), this was an entirely unexpected scenario!
Our wedding planning team spent the day glued to the weather and decided at the close of play, that we had no option but to move the wedding. So, bye-bye tipi wedding, and hello amazing museum wedding in the grounds of Fawley Hill – seriously, this space is insane!
Our wedding planners worked through the night and across the next 2 days to implement a contingency plan, redesigning the wedding including reorganising their wedding suppliers and ensuring the new logistics would work perfectly.
And…I’m thrilled to say that their wedding was an absolute triumph! You can see how fun it was from the images and also take a look at this trailer from Mike Savory Films. And the best bit, Karen and Michael told me that it felt like the weather issues were actually fate and that the wedding they had felt like it should have been their wedding all along.
All. The. Feels.
So, why am I telling you this short story? I wanted to share a little hope with those of you who are facing challenging decisions and changing wedding plans. Fate has a funny way of steering you along a different path and I can categorically tell you that you WILL get married and you’ll celebrate your love and party even harder, just at a later date.
