As professional Wedding Planners who work with couples across London & East Anglia (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge & Essex), we’ve been working with our wedding planning clients across the past couple of weeks to help them postpone their weddings amidst the Coronavirus pandemic. Whilst it’s been a very challenging time for both our clients and the wedding industry as a whole, there are three brief lessons we’d like to share for couples who are planning their own UK wedding.
- Wedding Insurance
Really simple – get some! At One Curious Dream, we encourage all of our wedding planning clients to take out an appropriate wedding insurance policy to cover their wedding or event. Having this added layer of protection has given our clients a little more comfort when making tough decisions about postponing their wedding and has given them the security that they can recoup some of the losses associated with making the change. Check your wedding or event insurance policy carefully and make sure the information you provide is wholly accurate to stand the maximum chance of receiving a payout should the worse happen.
This is ESSENTIAL. PLEASE ensure that you have a written contract in place with your wedding venue and every single wedding supplier you hire. Whether you’re engaging the services of a wedding caterer or wedding photographer or simply want to hire a few props to decorate your wedding venue, having a written agreement with terms that specifically apply to postponement and cancellations are essential. If any terms in those contracts are unclear, do not sign or pay a deposit until further discussions with the wedding supplier and any necessary amendments are made.
Keep the lines of communication open with your wedding venue and wedding suppliers. It’s so so important that if you encounter any kind of issue, that you’re open and honest with your venue and suppliers. For the most part, the wedding industry is full of great people and wedding businesses who are genuinely committed to giving you the best day ever! Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help if you need it!
