7 Wedding Planning Tasks A wedding Planner Can’t Do!

As a multi-award-winning wedding planner, there aren’t many wedding planning tasks that I won’t professionally manage for my wedding planning couples! Of course, any wedding planner will always aim to provide a comprehensive service to ensure couples planning their wedding can enjoy the ride and have a smooth wedding planning experience. But, whilst we become your wedding planning fairy godmother, did you know that there are a few wedding tasks that you will still need to care of?

The simple truth is that we can’t do it all, which is why I work in partnership with my couples to ensure every box is firmly ticked when it comes to tackling wedding planning tasks. Here are some of the wedding planning tasks that any couple getting married will still need to tackle!

Wedding planning task 1 – Create a wedding guest list and gather  addresses

Once you’re engaged and ready to get your wedding plans underway, the first job will be to create a draft wedding guest list. This will give you an idea about the size of the wedding venue you need to secure, and having all of the addresses loggged will ensure sending save the dates out is a breeze!

Wedding planning task 2 – Planning your wedding budget

Before hiring a wedding planner, it’s a good idea to have had any budget discussions with your fiance, parents or anybody else financially contributing to your wedding. While I’ll always help my clients spend their wedding budget wisely and occasionally help them draft a wedding budget from scratch, it’s always much simpler if you know what you have to spend from the outset.

Wedding planning task 3 – Enter into contracts and pay suppliers

As a wedding planner, it’s my responsibility to source amazing suppliers who will help me produce the wedding from your wildest dreams! However, it’s your job as the couple planning a wedding to sign contracts, pay deposits and balances. You always hold a direct contractual relationship with the supplier, so do make sure you read and understand any terms and conditions before paying a deposit.

Wedding planning task 4 – Make wedding decisions

As a Wedding Planner, I always want to plan a wedding that is unique, authentic and personal. As a creative, I always like to balance the practical plans with a sprinkle of magic, but the reality is that I can’t read your mind! Therefore, I always ask my clients to be clear, comprehensive and honest when providing feedback, so if they don’t like an option I’ve suggested, I know why and can refind the search as we move forwards together. Ultimately, you are always in control of your wedding plans, so the final decision always rests with you!

Wedding planning task 5 – Do the job of other wedding suppliers.

As a wedding planner, my job is to oversee every aspect of your wedding, from planning to delivery. On your wedding day, we want to ensure that every detail is perfect, and that means having the time to be watchful and make sure the right people are in the right place at the right time. Our role is not to replace that of your suppliers – we don’t serve drinks or food, cut cakes, set up chairs or similar. In simple terms, we’re the conductor, and your suppliers are the orchestra; let us work for you to ensure your plans come together to perfection!

Wedding planning task 6 – Table planning

There is not much to say about this one, only that you both know your friends and family, so they are best placed to seat them accordingly. Of course, we’ll always offer wedding planning advice to help you navigate any politics, but the decisions for creating your tableplan rest firmly in your court.

Wedding planning task 7 – Do the legal bit!

It’s always the couple’s responsibility getting married to give notice and sort the legalities for your wedding ceremony. I’ll always be able to point you in the right direction, but this task firmly lies with you!
