The top 5 challenges of wedding planning

The top 5 challenges of wedding planning!

As a multi-award-winning wedding planner, I know that it’s very rare for a couples wedding planning journey to run entirely smoothly from start to finish. Whilst planning a wedding can be a wonderful experience, there’s no doubt you’ll encounter some challenges during the wedding planning process. What might some of these events and challenges be, and how can you overcome them and plan your perfect day?

The Wedding venue

Getting the wedding venue you want should be one of the most straightforward parts of your wedding, right? Wrong! Choosing a venue that can accommodate your guests, is available on the day you want, and is within your price range can be quite the challenge. Not to mention choosing a place that has that special sprinkle of magic you’re looking for!

The most important thing is to start looking at wedding venues very early on in the wedding planning process and making sure it is convenient and appropriate for your wedding day. This is one thing you don’t want to leave to chance!

The wedding guests

It can be tempting to invite more guests than your venue can handle, assuming that at least a handful of guests will decline the invitation.

This can be a risky tactic though – you never want to end up with more guests than can fit in your venue. There shouldn’t be any hard feelings if you check in with your guests to see if they will be attending ahead of time.

The wedding details

There can be so many small details in your wedding that you might not consider. From something like how your guests will get from the wedding venue to the reception venue, to name cards on each table and the specific style of your ring, there is so much to think about. Speak to friends who have already planned a wedding, make some lists, and cover any ground you may have missed with your partner. In the case of wedding planning, teamwork really can make the dream work!

The weather

Alright, this is a tricky one. Depending on when you are getting married, you may have different expectations of what the weather will be doing.

Remembering to plan for every eventuality can be difficult, but think about what the weather might have in store on your wedding day – providing umbrellas for rain and parasols for sun might feel like a pain, but it could be an essential part of your day. Try not to plan things that are entirely dependent on sunshine, especially if you are marrying in the UK.

The wedding budget

Perhaps this is the main challenge of wedding planning – the finances. Your finances will dictate almost every element of your wedding, and so making a budget is a vital part of successful planning. Allow for a small amount of wiggle room, but make sure that your personal budget covers all the essentials, and the little extras, so there are no nasty surprises along the way. Think carefully about ways to cut costs where possible – you could hire a more local band, for example, as musicians can charge extra for travel.

Keeping these challenges in mind will help you to plan the wedding of your dreams with a little less stress!
