Plan a festival wedding!
If you’re hoping to plan a festival wedding, then today’s blog will tick all of the boxes for you!
As a leading festival wedding planner working across the UK, there’s nothing I love more than planning gorgeous, fun-filled festival weddings!
Perfect for couples who wish to embrace those laid-back festival vibes, this style of wedding is relaxed, informal and all about the fun – I’ve pulled this blog from the 2018 archives to find out how to plan the perfect festival wedding!
Festival wedding planners
As a UK wedding planner, I’ve enjoyed working with some fantastic wedding planning couples this season and have loved seeing the different ideas and wedding visions being brought to life.
One of my most popular styles of wedding this year is the festival wedding or ‘wed-fest’ – think the great outdoors, generally with tipi’s, relaxed vibes and a party that goes down in history as the one to remember! With festival and tipi weddings becoming so prominent, we thought we would share some ideas on how to plan an epic festival wedding!
Festival Wedding Venue
We’re incredibly lucky in Norfolk and the East of England that we have so many amazing wedding venues available to host a festival wedding! Norfolk and Suffolk, in particular, have beautiful wedding venues with plenty of space to erect tipi’s under big, beautiful skies! Lots of my wedding planning couples also choose to host their festival wedding at home, and whilst this takes a little more work, the flexibility an at home wedding offers is a wonderful thing!
Festival Wedding Ceremony
First of all, it’s important to understand that many festival wedding venues across the UK are not licensed spaces. This means that you’ll need to conduct your legal wedding ceremony separately at a registry office before hiring a wedding celebrant to lead your wedding ceremony at your festival wedding venue.
Festival wedding celebrant
The joy of hiring a wedding celebrant is that you can create a festival-themed wedding ceremony that’s entirely personal and unique – in fact, why not get the party started AT your wedding ceremony? Couples often choose to incorporate fun elements from sing-a-longs through to shot drinking, with a celebrant-led ceremony, the world is your oyster!
Festival wedding food
The purpose of planning a festival wedding is to create a genuinely relaxed and fun celebration, so forget the formalities when it comes to your wedding breakfast. Many couples who opt for a festival wedding are looking to escape the traditional elements that can feel restrictive. This often means that sit-down 3-course meals are replaced with food trucks, BBQ’s or even street food style markets with plenty of options from burgers through to hot doughnuts!
We’re spoilt for choice across the UK with some incredible wedding caterers, most of whom will be happy to work to any specific menu requirements.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match food options either – fish and chip vans are super popular, and frankly, it isn’t a proper festival without hot crepes or an ice cream or two. Not only will your wedding guests love the choices on offer, but this relaxed way of eating also offers free-flowing food – great for keeping the energy levels up for dancing and partying the night away.
Festival wedding drinks
When it comes to festival wedding drinks, keep things simple, and you guessed it, relaxed! A signature cocktail or two served from Kilner jars alongside tubs with ice-cold beers and cider work wonders and helped you create those Glasto vibes!
Festival wedding music
For most couples planning a festival wedding, music is top of the priority list! Investing in great musicians or a fantastic wedding DJ will ensure you have a packed dancefloor, and keep in mind that when it comes to entertainment, you do get what you pay for!
Festival wedding ideas
To enhance your festival atmosphere, why not hire a face painter or glitter bar (for kids AND adults!), fire juggler or stilt walker to add some wow-factor! Flower crown bars are also trendy, and temporary tattoo stations also give your guests something fun to play with. Remember, a festival wedding is all about the playful!
Festival wedding styling
When it comes to festival wedding décor, be bold! Bright colours, neon signs, ribbon backdrops and, of course, lots of candles will help you create that perfect festival wedding vibe. The joy here is that your décor can be as relaxed as the rest of your day, so have fun creating personalised signage, DIY photo booths, outdoor living rooms and any other touches that say ‘the party starts here!
