Planning a Marquee Wedding? How to choose your wedding marquee!

If you’re planning a UK wedding and are currently choosing your wedding marquee, then today’s blog will be the perfect read for you!

As a specialist marquee wedding organiser today, I’m going to explore the different wedding marquee types available for you to hire and help you make that all-important decision about choosing the right marquee type for your wedding.

How to choose the right marquee for your wedding – Wedding marquee types

Choosing the right marquee for your wedding can be a tricky task! For anybody planning a dry-hire marquee wedding, or a garden party or wedding at home (or on hired land), it’s important to consider the location, as well as the look and feel you’re aiming to create for your wedding. There are so many ways that you can decorate a marquee too, and different styles lend themselves to different looks.

Here are some of the most popular types of marquees available for wedding hire.

Traditional pole marquee
This beautifully classic marquee is perfect for couples who wish to plan a stunning countryside garden marquee wedding. Built with internal supporting poles and best erected on a grass surface, you’ll need to ensure there is at least 6 feet around the perimeter of the marquee to ensure the guy ropes can be pegged in. One benefit of hiring a traditional pole marquee is that the sides can be removed in unusually warm weather, guaranteeing plenty of airflow for your wedding guests.

Clearspan marquee
A huge benefit of hiring a clearspan marquee for your wedding is that it can be installed on most surfaces, including hard ground such as concrete. With no internal poles, you can make the most of all interior space, so it’s a particularly good option if you have a large wedding guest list. Most clearspan marquees will come in white, but there are entirely transparent options available too, this means you can maximise the views from the marquee and even keep on an eye on the stars twinkling at night!

Sailcloth or Sperry tents
Perfect options for summer weddings, sailcloth marquees (aka Sperry tents) are beautifully airy with high ceilings, which makes them a great blank canvas for large floral installations. I’m incredibly lucky to work with the most amazing wedding florists who have lots of experience with creating wow-factor floral installations and are comfortable working at height, so do get in touch if you need some recommendations! This style of marquee will also have sides that can be removed, so again, it’s a beautifully open and airy option for those scorching summer days.

Capri marquees
These curvy marquees are completely open-sided, so whilst they are perfect for giving a little shelter during a drinks reception or even your wedding ceremony, they’re less suited to hosting your entire wedding breakfast. However, they look fab and can be a lifesaver on a hot or rainy day!

Tipi’s aka teepees
It won’t have escaped your notice that I also love planning tipi weddings! These are the perfect option for couples hoping to plan a relaxed, festival feel wedding, and because the canvas is that bit thicker and darker, it’s much easier to create a party atmosphere when the sun sets!

Hire a marquee wedding Organiser

No matter which type of marquee you choose for your wedding, do ensure that you speak with your wedding organiser or marquee supplier to ensure you hire the right size marquee. As a minimum, your marquee will need to be large enough to host your wedding breakfast, dancefloor and bar and also have plenty of space to host reception drinks in case the weather doesn’t run to plan.
