So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and hire a Wedding Planner – congratulations! Whilst as a multi-award-winning wedding planner I’m probably a little bit biased, I can categorically tell you that booking a professional wedding planning service means you’ll have an enjoyable and stress-free wedding planning journey, which frankly, is priceless!

I also know that hiring a wedding planner will be a reasonable investment that needs to be built into your wedding budget. So, here’s my guide to how much it costs to book a professional wedding planner to plan your wedding and how much you can expect to pay for a wedding planning service.

How much does a wedding planner cost?

Firstly, if you’re looking to hire a wedding planner for a comprehensive wedding planning service, it’s likely that the Wedding Planner will charge their fee as a percentage of your overall wedding budget. For this fee, your wedding planner will cover everything and anything to help you plan your perfect wedding. From sourcing your dream wedding venue and trusted, reputable wedding suppliers through to styling your wedding venue and wedding coordination, they’ll be on hand to make the wedding planning process a breeze!

Generally, depending on the experience and expertise of the wedding planner, the fee for a full wedding planning service is likely to be between 10-15% of your overall wedding budget, and this will be determined by the duration and complexity of your wedding. Most Wedding Planners who offer this type of wedding planning service will have a minimum fee, so always check what this is to ensure their wedding planning package fits with your budget. At One Curious Dream, my minimum investment equates to £5,500 or 12% of your budget, whichever is higher.

Also be mindful that under this option, your wedding planners fee will increase if your budget increases as generally, this will mean your wedding planner will need to undertake additional work on your behalf.

How much is a wedding planner package?

Many wedding planners will offer a set wedding planning package at a fixed cost which often falls under a partial wedding planning service. This is particularly useful for couples who have already started planning their wedding but need some professional wedding planning support to bring the plans together.

For a fixed fee, the wedding planner will include a specific range of tasks and a defined number of hours of wedding planning support to help you finish planning your wedding.

Regardless of whether the Wedding Planner links their costs to your budget or offers a fixed fee, it’s essential that you get a written contract in place which outlines exactly what you can expect from your wedding planner, along with the tasks they intend to undertake in return for the fee.

Does your wedding planner accept commission?

Also, take note as to whether your potential Wedding Planner accepts commission which is often paid by wedding suppliers to wedding planners in return for recommendations to their couples. Working with a wedding planner that does accept commission or referral fees is likely to cost you more in the long run so do always ask the question!
