So you’re engaged – congratulations!
Whilst at One Curious Dream we know this will be an amazingly exciting time for any newly engaged couple, the start of the wedding planning process can feel a little daunting and overwhelming. Faced with a million and one questions about wedding planning and a ton of choices to make, here are some quick tips and wedding planning advice from our team of professional Wedding Planners to help you get your wedding planning journey underway!
What’s your wedding style?
It’s so important that you have an open and honest conversation and about the style of wedding you’re hoping to plan. Are you looking to host a wedding weekend with your nearest and dearest in the country or is the idea of throwing an elegant marquee wedding or a festival-style tipi wedding firmly in your mind?
Visions of a fairytale wedding in a castle or something laid-back and luxe in a private estate? Have the discussion and make a decision as early as you possibly can – the vision for your wedding sets the tone for your wedding planning journey together.
First of all, decide what’s most important to you both and prioritise these elements across your wedding day. If you’re both music lovers, for example, allocating a decent portion of the wedding budget to an amazing band or floor-filling DJ will keep the party going all night. Similarly, if you’re both crazy about food and fine dining, investing more cash in the wedding breakfast is a great idea. As professional Wedding Planners who work across London & East Anglia (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge & Essex) we want you to be on the same page, or at least reading the same book by the time we meet – so have this discussion early!
Narrow down the wedding venue criteria
Choosing a wedding venue can feel a little overwhelming if you’re not working with a professional wedding planner. However, asking yourself three key questions will make finding a wedding venue much simpler. 1) Which year do you want to get married and do you have a preference re the season? 2) Roughly where geographically would you like to get married? 3) How many guests would you like to invite? Answering these three questions should help you narrow down the venue options straight away.
Photography is key!
Great wedding photographers are like gold dust! No matter what style of wedding you’re hoping to plan, when the wedding day is over, the photographs will be the only physical memory you’ll have. The best wedding photographers book up a couple of years in advance, so the sooner you can make this decision, the better!
