As wedding planners, we’re used to finding amazing wedding venues throughout the UK, but honestly, there’s nothing more exciting than searching for a unique, beautiful venue to host a London wedding!
With engagement season just around the corner and a whole heap of newly engaged couples heading out to find the wedding venue of their dreams, we thought we would share our top tips for finding the perfect London wedding venue! These tips work perfectly throughout the rest of the UK too!
As London wedding planners, we know that you’re super-excited to embark on your wedding planning journey! However, before rushing out and looking at every venue throughout London, it’s important to do a little groundwork first so that you set off on the right path.
So, the big one – Budget. It’s so important that you have an idea of how much you can spend on your London wedding, not only on your wedding overall but what portion of your budget you can allocate to your wedding venue. Having a figure in mind means you’ll approach venues that you can afford to hire, so please be realistic as nobody wants their hopes to be dashed!
Secondly, and just as important – how many guests are you hoping to invite to your London wedding? There’s no point looking at intimate boutique hotels if you have 200 + guests, and similarly, a grand ballroom won’t work for a smaller celebration!
It’s also really important that you establish what is most important to you both – for example, are you looking for a London wedding venue that can accommodate all of your guests overnight, offers a late licence, is dry-hire so you can provide your own alcohol etc? Again, having this list will enable you to start your search on the right path.
Location – London’s a big place! As London wedding planners, we know that there are amazing spaces dotted throughout the capital, but there may well be specific areas of London that are really special to you.
Once you’ve narrowed down your options and have booked in some wedding venue viewings, you must get all of the information you need so that you can make an informed decision about the wedding venue. Here are some top questions we would recommend you to ask!
- Can we hold a legal wedding ceremony here?
With many couples opting for a celebrant-lead service, this may not be essential. BUT, if you are hoping that your ceremony is legally binding, you will need to ask this question as not all London wedding venues are licensed.
- What is your wedding guest capacity?
Seems obvious but ensuring the potential wedding venue can host all of your guests is critical. It’s also important to keep in mind throughout the planning journey, especially if you decide to add additional guests!
- Will we have exclusive use of the wedding venue?
As London wedding planners, most of the UK wedding venues that we select for our couples offer hire on an exclusive-use basis. However, some of the traditional, larger venues throughout London can host multiple weddings which may mean you need to share facilities. Depending on the wedding venue, you may be comfortable with this, but we would always advise choosing a venue that is booked on an exclusive use basis.
- How long will we have the venue for?
You must have a clear understanding of when you can access and depart the wedding venue. This is particularly important where you’ve engaged the services of a wedding designer who may need additional time to set up the décor for your wedding. With dry-hire venues, you’ll usually have access the day before and a day after the wedding to clear down but some of the more traditional venues will only allow same-day access.
- What about suppliers?
As London wedding planners, we predominantly plan weddings in dry-hire venues which offer the opportunity for you to select your own suppliers, meaning you can truly personalise your wedding. However, some of the more traditional venues will have a preferred supplier list that you need to choose your suppliers from and will often charge additional fees if you would like to work with a wedding supplier who isn’t on that list. May sure to check this in advance.
Of course, there are many more questions to ask your potential wedding venues to ensure you find the perfect fit.
