So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and hire a UK Wedding Planner – congratulations! We’re probably a little bit biased, but it’s likely your wedding planning journey will not only be stress-free, but it may also actually be enjoyable with the support of a professional wedding planner by your side!
As an award-winning UK Wedding Planner, one of the first questions potential couples will ask is how much does a wedding planner cost? So, here’s our guide to how wedding planners work out their fees and how much you can expect to pay for a wedding planning package for a UK wedding.
Firstly, if you’re looking to hire a UK wedding planner for a full-service wedding planning option, it’s likely that a UK Wedding Planner will charge their fee as a percentage of your overall budget. Generally, depending on the experience level of the UK wedding planner, the fee is likely to be between 10-15% of your overall wedding budget and this will be determined by the duration and complexity of your wedding.
Most UK Wedding Planners offering this service will have a minimum fee, so always check what this is to ensure their wedding planning package fits with your budget. At One Curious Dream, we base our wedding planning packages and fees on your overall event budget and exclude certain items, so we would never include your wedding clothing, honeymoon and rings, for example. It’s likely that the UK wedding planners fee will adjust if your wedding budget increases so be mindful of this when creating your wedding budget.
Many UK wedding planners will offer a set wedding planning package at a fixed fee. For this fixed fee, they will include a specific number of tasks and hours and will be very clear about what they do and don’t include as part of the wedding planning package.
At One Curious Dream, our Wedding Day Management service would fall into this category. A UK wedding planner may also agree to a fixed fee if your wedding has a particularly large budget so that you can factor in how much the wedding planner costs into your overall wedding budget.
Regardless of whether the UK Wedding Planner links their costs to your budget or offers a fixed fee, it’s essential that you get a written contract in place which outlines exactly what wedding planning advice and tasks the wedding planner intends to include for the fee that you are paying. Having a contract in place will ensure there are no hidden surprises as the wedding planning journey progresses!
Finally, also take note as to whether the UK Wedding Planner accepts commission. As a member of the UKAWP, One Curious Dream does not accept commission and passes all cost savings onto our clients. Working with a wedding planner that does accept commission or referral fees is likely to cost you more in the long run so do always ask the question!
