When I started writing this diary two whole months ago, I had every intention of welcoming you into the life behind the scenes at One Curious Dream – warts and all! Because, here’s the thing, so so many people want to become a wedding planner and run a successful wedding planning business, but the idea of what being a professional wedding planner entails is very far from reality!
We’ve all seen the movies where an uber-glam lady rocks up to a wedding in heels and immaculate clothing, with a headset and clipboard in hand, working her magic and preventing one disaster after another. I guess some of this is kind of true (headset/clipboard, disaster prevention and magic making = yes), but honestly, any wedding planner worth their weight in gold will never wear bloody heels!
Trust me, after spending a day (and by day, it can often be up to 16 hours on-site for larger weddings!) setting up, lugging equipment around, unpacking vans and directing your wedding suppliers, usually in a field or somewhere very remote (particularly for tipi weddings and marquee weddings), your feet will be ready for a rest! Of course, we’ll also be on our feet on the wedding day itself where we don’t stop from the moment we arrive whilst we ensure every single detail is perfect for you!
I guess what I’m saying is if you’re thinking of becoming a wedding planner and want to run a successful wedding planning business, aside from professional training and gaining some experience, the next best bot of advice I can give you is to buy yourself a footbath!
Anyway, I digress! Thankfully, this week there hasn’t been too many warts and all issues! We’ve continued managing our existing postponements and in light of the latest government advice, we’re now postponing our weddings from Autumn onwards. Our wedding planning couples continue to be wonderful and handle the situation with dignity, pragmatism and grace and I’m so so lucky that these are the people we get to support through this time.
In exciting news, we’ve welcomed another gorgeous pair of couples to the One Curious Dream family, one who will be hosting a weekend wedding and another who is hoping to host a stunning Norfolk wedding. Can’t wait to get started!
As a reminder, availability for our wedding planning and wedding design services is looking pretty tight for next year, so if you do want to find out more about how we plan and design incredible weddings across London & East Anglia, as well as further afield throughout the UK, do get in touch!
Anyway, duty calls, so I’ll love you and leave you for another week. Stay positive, peeps, and be excellent to each other.
