I don’t know if it’s just me, but I seem to have FINALLY settled into this new normal – hoo-bloody-ray! It’s taken 7 long weeks but I think I’ve finally relaxed into being permanently at home and more importantly, am now starting to come to terms with the completely different landscape that 2020 now offers for One Curious Dream.
If I’m honest with myself, it’s ever so likely that I’ve spent the last few weeks in denial because 2020 was set to be the ONE for this beautiful little wedding planning business. With a fully booked wedding season, I, along with our wedding planning team were gearing up to deliver some absolutely BALLER weddings for our gorgeous couples. Having spent winter helping our wedding planning couples finalise their plans, I honestly felt so excited for the season ahead and the incredible weddings on the horizon.
So, as the first wave of wedding postponements started to trickle in, I think I had probably convinced myself that it would be temporary and that within a few weeks it would all blow over. Looking back, I can’t quite believe how naive I was to think that, but to use the favourite word of the UK government, COVID-19 has impacted this beautiful industry in the most unprecedented way.
Those first few weeks passed by in a blur of liaising between wedding venues, wedding suppliers and our wedding planning couples trying to reach a happy compromise for all parties and honestly, it was tough. With so many of our clients based overseas, our wedding planning team literally worked through the night to implement contingency plans and get our couples weddings back on track. Our overseas clients have told us that choosing to hire a UK wedding planner has turned out to be the best decision they made with regards to their wedding and we’ve been overwhelmed with the love and thanks we’ve been shown.
Anyway, the wedding postponements continue to trickle in and our wedding season is now very very quiet! As a wedding planning business, we’ll be helping our new planning couples get their plans in place whilst we also progress all of the projects that we never quite get the time to tackle. I guess I’m still trying to find the silver lining in all of this and I think it’s really that next year will be bigger and better than I could ever have imagined – I’m so grateful that we have the most wonderful couples, incredible venues and amazing wedding suppliers on board for the journey.
Next year looks set to be EPIC as not only we will be producing weddings for lots of our 2020 wedding planning couples, we’ll also be making the magic happen for 2021 wedding planning clients as well. So, this year, the wedding planning team and I will get some downtime so that we’re raring to go for the biggest ever year for One Curious Dream.
If you’re struggling living under lockdown conditions, please be kind to yourself. Take some time each day to do something that makes you happy, no matter how small because we WILL get through this and we’ll all come out the other side so much stronger.
Anyway, duty calls, so I’ll love you and leave you for another week. Stay positive, peeps, and be excellent to each other.
