Well ladies, this is one of the common questions we’re asked by budget savvy couples looking to get the most bang for their buck. Essentially, when it comes to creating beautiful, unique wedding décors, you essentially have three choices – buy, DIY or hire, all of which have pros and cons. So which option is right for you?
It probably isn’t a surprise that this option is often the most expensive. Whilst buying your props and décor items enables you to personalise your day perfectly (gold and pink cutlery anybody?), it does mean that you need a fairly hefty budget to start with. Granted, you may be able to sell some of the items on sites such as eBay or www.sellmywedding.co.uk but this does rely on another couple having your exacting taste! One advantage is that purchasing your items enables you to be super organised with no last minute visits to suppliers before the big day to collect hire props, although, to be fair, most will deliver directly to your venue.
A great option for brides who have a love for all things craft – although do beware! Whilst creating your own beautiful décor items can be great fun for your wedding party to get involved in and you can personalise as much as you like, make sure (and we say this politely) you don’t overestimate your craft ability! We recently met with a couple who had spent hundreds of pounds on materials for DIY centrepieces that looked easy to create, but in reality, were a nightmare to make.
Now we appreciate that as a prop hire company, we are OBVIOUSLY going to shout from the rooftops about hiring your items! There are genuinely, some really obvious benefits to hiring though. Firstly, and this is really key for most couples, it tends to be the least expensive way to create the look and feel you are after. The majority of prop hire companies will have an extensive collection of unique pieces, for you to use as your own for the day at a fraction of the cost of purchasing outright. In many cases, some of these props will not be available to purchase on the high street so it’s well worth looking at hire options if you have something specific in mind. There is a major drawback with hiring – you have to give the beautiful items back at the end!
