One common question that keeps cropping up is what information should be included on wedding invitations? Here are our top tips to make sure your guests are fully in the know!
1. Time, Date & Venue
Seems really obvious but the point here is to make sure the information you include is crystal clear. Time, date and venue is a no-brainer – but make sure that if you are having your ceremony in a different venue to where your celebration will take place that you provide information for both locations – after all, nobody wants to have to deal with the “where are we going next?” questions when you should be basking in the afterglow of making your vows! It’s also worth including whether transport is provided between the venues so that guests can take care of their own journey if not.
2. Name. But Which One?
Probably one of the more controversial elements – who exactly should you invite? For people who are married or have been with their other half since the beginning of time, it’s likely your invitation will be addressed to them both. However, in cases where a guest has a new partner or you’re inviting work colleagues, you may not wish to extend the invitation to include a plus one. The key is to agree on a set of rules and stick to them so that you don’t have some guests who have been allowed to bring a companion and some who don’t. Writing names clearly on the invitation should indicate who you would like to join you on your big day.
As an aside, the same goes for children. If you want to keep your day very adult-focused, make sure you highlight this politely on your invitations.
3. Next Steps
One of the biggest complaints we hear from our couples is guests who fail to rsvp. Not only is it immensely irritating, especially when people just assume you know they will be there, it makes budgeting and planning much more difficult. Make sure you include clear information about how you expect people to respond to you (post, email, wedding website etc) and the cut-off date.
4. The Quirks
Gone are the days where guests would arrive at a standard wedding where they could expect to enjoy the same delights as every other wedding that they had ever been to! With couples now focusing on creating a truly personal day, there is more info than ever that you should be sharing with your guests. Is accommodation available? Are guests going to be staying in a glamping village? Are you having an unplugged wedding with no social media presence? Would you like guests to bring a cake for your very own bake off? Thinking about these key elements will ensure a smooth planning process for you and a wonderful experience for your guests. Whilst you may want to keep many of the details of your day a surprise, making sure you provide the right information to your guests will keep everybody happy!
